SPRING BREAK
Self-care is everything to counselors. We constantly deal with such hard issues that can be emotionally and physically draining. Self-care was hard for me to completely understand when learning about it in grad school. I thought self-care was to much about me and not enough about my clients. Now, I have the opposite opinion. Rest and relaxation allow me to help my students better. If I am at my best, I can help my kids to the best of my ability.
This particular spring break, my mom, sister, and I traveled to Texas to my uncle's lake house. The weather was incredible. We did nothing but watch movies, read, play games, and eat great lake food. One day the weather allowed us to lay out on the dock and just relax. It was the perfect break. Another way that I handle my self-care is through yoga. Yoga is such a great way to exercise, stretch, and relax. I try to do a little bit of yoga everyday, which definitely continued at the lake. :)
